Attu Amphib Invasion Aerial View Of Beachhead May 43 671

Photographed from a protecting American plane, seven landing boats are lined up on the beach at Massacre Bay on the Island of Attu in the Aleutians, where U.S. forces landed to wipe out Japanese occupation forces. Piles of supplies are stacked on the beach near the truck lanes, clearly visible in the photo, over which men and material traveled to the fighting lines as the U.S. forces moved inland to trap the enemy in a pincers movement and clean up isolated pockets of Japanese resistance.
