Aleutian Weather Well Illustrated Rg 208 599

Thick layers of clouds, shrouding the surrounding terrain and all but the peaks of the mountains on Agattu Island, one of the three westernmost of the Aleutians occupied by the Japanese, are the answer to the inability of U.S. Army Air Forces to bomb the enemy into the sea. It has been found impossible to conduct successful air operations in this area, where the usual ceiling is two or three hundred feet, and fog blankets the islands most of the time. But pilots continue their efforts, as witness the raid on Kiska Island, announced yesterday. 8/9/1942
