Aleutian Evacuee Ship 858

Evacuees of Alaska, June 1942. The Pribilof Islanders comprised the largest single group of evacuees. The twin islands of St. George and St. Paul provided a living for nearly five hundred Aleuts in the government owned seal rookeries. Under government supervision a limited kill of bachelor seals was made each year, and the treated furs auctioned at St. Louis.
