94th Bg B 17 E Helno Gal May 21, 1943
Hit by Me-109 over Emden, Germany. The crippled flying fortress made it back to the English coast where it made a crash landing. No. 2 engine had burned (see unbent prop blade) and pilot Willard Roemke belly-landed the plane. The entire crew survived and when they got out of the plane, its tail was in the air but it settled to the ground by the time this picture was taken.
