Colonel James M. Stewart, former screen star, now stationed in England, recieves the Croix de Guerre with palm from Lieutenant General Martial Valin, chief of staff for the French Air Force, during a colorful ceremony honoring numerous U.S. 8th Air Force men for "exceptional services" for the liberation of France. Colonel Stewart, chief of staff of U.S. 8th Air Force's 2nd Combat Wing and veteran of numerous bombing missions, also holds the Distinguished Flying Cross with a bronze oak leaf cluster and the Air Medal with two clusters.
